PREPARATION OF CARS
1. Car must have at least two 1/2" diameter metal bars welded in the
windshield area in front of the driver. (Safety)
2. Two 3-inch holes must be cut in hood around the carburetor for easy
access in case of fire.
3. The Drivers door (only) must be painted a contrasting color.
4. Driver's name and car number must appear on both front doors in large
print.
5. Slogans, printing, advertising, or other markings of good taste
may be placed anywhere on the car except the driver's door. No profanity
or obscene gestures allowed.
6. Number on the car and the entry form must be the same.
7. Radiators, transmission coolers, and fans may be removed, but not
relocated. May add a transmission cooler and it has to be relocated.
8. Electric radiator fans are permissible.
9. Batteries must be relocated and strapped in a secure position.
Batteries must be covered up.
10. Bumpers and fenders may be trimmed.
11. Driver's door must be reinforced, on inside of car only, using pipe
or angle iron only: do not use "Grader Blade" materials. Reinforcement
must be securely fastened. Must have a 3 point cage, 4 point is
acceptable. MAXIMUM SIZE OF PIPE IS 3" AND 4 POINT PROTECTION MAY
ONLY EXTEND 12" BEHIND DRIVER SEAT.
12. Reinforcement may not extend into the trunk. One brace may extend to
bottom frame on Passenger side immediately behind the driver's seat. The
other end must not extend past the rear of front fender well. All
reinforcement must be kept inside the door or inside the car.
13. THE CENTER OF REAR BUMPER MUST NOT EXCEED A MAXIMUM HEIGHT OF 26
INCHES.
14. Chains are allowed to hold bumpers to hoods and trunks, no larger
than 3/8" link. No welded strap. Bumpers and Bumper brackets may not be
welded to frame, bumper brackets may not be welded to the bumpers.
Bumper shocks may be collapsed and welded.
15. Nothing will be allowed securing the hood to the frame or trunk
lid to frame.
16. Hoods may be secured with a maximum of 2" angle iron: 2 each per
side with each one not exceeding 12 inches in length. No hood support
attached to the frame.
17. Gas tank must be moved to rear seat area and securely fastened,
either with strap type material or a bolted steel frame. No plastic gas
cans.
18. OLD GAS TANK MUST BE REMOVED. All fuel lines must be
secured.
19. No artificial means are allowed to limit the travel of the
suspension.
20. All exterior chrome and glass must be removed.
21. All trunks must be empty and access provided for inspection.
22. Doors, trunks, wagon gates may be chained or stitch welded. If
welded it will be weld 4" skip 4" stitch welding. Welds may not exceed 4
inches.
23. No reinforcement welding allowed anywhere. Spot welded factory
seams must not be welded. No welding under the hood or welding of fender
wells. NO SEAM WELDING!!
24. Hinged storage areas on wagons may not be welded. This includes
spare tire storage compartment.
25. Tires may not exceed 16 inches in diameter and MUST BE OF A STOCK
CAR OR LIGHT TRUCK TYPE. NO FARM IMPLEMENT TIRES OR MUDDER TYPE TIRES
WILL BE ALLOWED.
26. No special bumpers, weights, trailer hitches, roll bars, special
lifts, shackles or any other special reinforcements will be allowed.
(Except as outlined above.)
27. Body bushings may be removed.
PARTICIPATION RULES
1. No one is allowed in the pit area with out a wrist band and a
release signed.
2. Anyone found working on a participants vehicle without a wrist
band will be an immediate disqualification of driver and car and will be
escorted off the Fair Grounds.
3. No driver or pit crew member who is under the influence of alcohol
will be allowed in the pit area or competition area.
4. ALL DRIVERS MUST ATTEND PIT MEETING 30 MINUTES PRIOR TO RACE TIME.
5. Safety belts and helmets with straps must be worn. Eye protection is
recommended.
6. No pit crew will be allowed in the arena during a heat.
7. NO HITS ON DRIVER'S DOOR WILL BE ALLOWED. YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED
ON VIOLATION.
8. Drivers must remain in car until car is removed from arena.
9. A car will be disqualified if it does not initiate contact with
another car within 90 seconds.
10. No team driving is allowed.
11. No 2-way radios.
12. Brakes must be in good working order.
13. Running outside the marked competition area will result in
disqualification.
14. Cars will be flagged by the judges when disqualified: THIS MEANS
STOP!!
15. Car will be disqualified upon second fire.
16. Car roll-overs are disqualified. Race will be stopped and the
officials will make the determination if the vehicle will be pulled from
the
DRIVER ENTRY
1. Drivers must exhibit a valid driver's license during check in.
2. Driver must furnish his/her own car or have someone sponsor his/her
car.
3. Only American cars or wagons are allowed: NO jeeps, convertibles or
carryalls are allowed.
4. Driver may enter each heat but must have a different car for each
heat.
5. Entries will be allowed up to 1 hour prior to drivers meeting.
Driver waiver and entry form must be signed by Driver AND Pitmen.
6. Driver may have a maximum of 2 pit men per car.
7. Pit crew must accompany driver when checking in.
8. CARS MUST BE CHECKED IN AND IN THE PITS 30 MINUTES PRIOR TO RACE
TIME NO EXCEPTIONS.
9. No working on cars after check in/inspection.
HEATS
1. The derby will consist of 3 or more heats with as nearly an even
number of cars as possible.
2. Heat assignment will be determined by a drawing at the registration
table.
3. Drivers may not appoint a substitute for extra cars in the final
heat.
4. Last 2 cars running in each heat will advance to the Main Event.
Other cars may participate in the Grudge Heat for a second chance to
advance to the Main.
All rules may be clarified by the derby official, provided they are
announced at the pit meeting.
REMOVAL OF CARS
1. Each driver must remove his/her car from the fairgrounds within
24 hours after the Derby.
2. If driver enters Derby without removal equipment, he must deposit a
$50.00 removal fee, plus a signed title for each car.
